Adding Music or Links to Instagram Posts

Add audio to Reels from Postpone, and use notification posting for link stickers, effects, and other native features.

You can attach audio to a Reel directly in Postpone, and it publishes with the post automatically. Everything else Instagram keeps to its own app — link stickers, filters, polls — still has to be added by hand when the post goes out.

Add audio to a Reel

When you schedule a Reel, Postpone shows a Music picker under the post editor. Search for a song, pick it, and the Reel publishes with that audio attached.

The picker is available when all of the following are true:

  • The post is a Reel.
  • The Instagram account is connected via Facebook (see below).

A few things worth knowing before you pick a track:

  • The catalog is smaller than the app's. Instagram only makes part of its library available to third-party tools, so a song you can find in the Instagram app may not show up in Postpone.
  • The track plays from the start. You can't pick which part of the song is used.
  • You can mix the levels. Once a track is selected, the volume button next to it sets Music Volume (the track) and Source Volume (your video's own sound), each from 0 to 100.

Connect your account via Facebook

Instagram's audio API is only available to accounts connected through Facebook. If you connected your account with Instagram Login only, the Music picker won't appear.

To switch, go to Settings > Social Accounts > Instagram and click Connect via Facebook on the account. Your Instagram account needs to be a Creator or Business account linked to a Facebook Page — see Creating a Facebook Page for your Instagram Account.

Features that still need the Instagram app

Instagram's API doesn't expose these to third-party tools at all, so this applies to every scheduling platform — not just Postpone:

  • Music on feed posts, carousels, and Stories
  • Trending audio that isn't in the third-party catalog
  • Link stickers
  • Stickers, filters, and other visual effects
  • Interactive elements like polls and quizzes

To use any of them, schedule your post with notification posting. You still plan and time everything in Postpone, then put the finishing touches on your post in the Instagram app when it's time to publish.

Wherever the audio picker isn't available — a feed post, a Story, a notification post, or an account connected with Instagram Login — the editor shows a Music text field instead. Whatever you type there is saved as a reminder for you; it isn't sent to Instagram, and filling it in switches the post to notification posting.

  1. Schedule your post in Postpone and note the music you want to use.
  2. When it's time to post, Postpone sends a notification to your phone.
  3. Open Instagram from the notification, add your track or link sticker, and publish.
