Troubleshooting Automations

Resolve common automation issues and understand error messages.

My Automation Isn't Triggering

If your automation isn't running when you expect it to:

  • Check the feed status. Go to Settings > Feeds and verify the feed is Active. Paused or erroring feeds will not trigger automations.
  • Make sure the automation is enabled. Disabled automations will not trigger. Check the automation's status on the Automations page — if it shows a "disabled" badge, click the three-dot menu and select Enable.
  • Feeds poll periodically. New items are not detected instantly. There is a delay between when content is published and when Postpone's feed system picks it up.
  • The item may already be known. Feeds only trigger on new items. If the item was already in the feed when the automation was created, it won't trigger a run.

Posts Are Failing

If runs appear in your run history but show a "Failed" status:

  • Check the error message. Hover over the question mark icon next to the failed status to see the specific error.
  • Reconnect your social account. Expired or revoked account tokens are a common cause of failures. Go to Settings > Social Accounts and reconnect the affected account.
  • Review platform restrictions. Some platforms enforce rate limits or content restrictions that may cause posts to be rejected.
  • Check your post template. Make sure the template produces valid content for the target platform. For example, Reddit posts require a title and at least one subreddit.

Skipped Actions

Grey dots in the run history indicate skipped actions. An action may be skipped if:

  • The action's social account was disconnected or removed.
  • The action could not be executed due to a prerequisite failure.

Duplicate Posts

If you're seeing duplicate posts, check whether you have multiple automations connected to the same feed and social account. Each automation runs independently, so overlapping configurations will produce duplicate posts.

Platform Not Available

Automations currently support X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, Facebook, and Reddit. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Tumblr are not available for automations at this time.

Feed Errors

If a feed shows an "Erroring" status in Settings > Feeds:

  • Verify the URL is correct. The source may have changed its feed URL or structure.
  • Check if the source is online. The website or service may be temporarily down.
  • Try removing and re-adding the feed. Delete the erroring feed and create a new one with the same URL.

If the issue persists, the feed source may not be compatible. Try using a direct RSS/Atom feed URL instead of a platform-specific URL.
