Sometimes a connected social account may become disconnected, which means Postpone can no longer publish posts or retrieve analytics for that account. This guide explains why disconnections happen and how to resolve them.
Why Accounts Disconnect
Accounts can disconnect for several reasons:
- Expired token — The authorization token granted when you connected the account has expired. Most platforms require periodic re-authorization. For example, LinkedIn tokens expire after 12 months — Postpone will send you an email one week before expiration so you can re-authorize in time.
- Password change — Changing your password on the social platform may revoke Postpone's access.
- Revoked access — You or a platform administrator manually revoked Postpone's permissions from the platform's app settings.
- Platform policy changes — The social platform updated its API or permissions, requiring re-authorization.
- Two-factor authentication changes — Enabling or changing 2FA on the social platform may invalidate the existing connection.
What Happens When an Account Disconnects
When an account disconnects:
- Scheduled posts will fail — Any posts scheduled for that account will not be published.
- Analytics stop updating — Performance metrics for that account will no longer refresh.
- You'll receive a notification — Postpone notifies you when a connected account loses its connection.
Viewing Disconnected Accounts
Navigate to Settings > Accounts and look for the Disconnected tab. This page lists all accounts that have lost their connection, along with the reason for disconnection (if available).
Reconnecting an Account
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Disconnected.
- Find the account you want to reconnect.
- Click Reconnect.
- Follow the authorization flow to grant Postpone access again.
- Once reconnected, the account moves back to your active accounts list.
After reconnecting, any posts that failed due to the disconnection will need to be rescheduled manually.
Removing a Disconnected Account
If you no longer need a disconnected account:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Disconnected.
- Find the account.
- Click Remove to permanently remove it from Postpone.
Preventing Disconnections
- Reconnect promptly when you receive a disconnection notification.
- Avoid revoking access from the platform's third-party app settings unless you intend to disconnect.
- Check periodically — Some platforms expire tokens after a set period (e.g., 60–90 days). Re-authorize before they expire if prompted.
